Fernridge stroll





A short 3km return stroll.
 We walked mostly on the railway tracks parallel to the trail, but you can walk on the hiking trail as well.

Forest Buzzard Trail






START: Witfontein Reserve
END: Witfontein Reserve
DISTANCE: 2.5 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 110 m
TERRAIN: Mostly single track.
Directions: From the Traffic Circle in Heatherpark in front of the Engen filling station, exit towards Oudshoorn on the N9 / N12. Drive about 800 m then turn right onto the Montagu Pass road. The road makes a left turn and becomes a gravel road. From here it is 400 m to the turnoff to the right for the Witfontein Reserve Offices.


 There is an alternative starting point to this trail which makes the hike 7 km. It’s a beautiful route and easy to find. Its starts at the end of Arbour road in Glen Barry, George.

George Dam via Tierkop







START: Saasveld
END: Saasveld
DISTANCE: 16 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 774 m
TERRAIN: Mostly gravel road or double track,
 but the last stretch to dam is single track.
(Single track slightly overgrown at some places, but still accessible)

Directions: From Knysna road in George take the Saasveld road turnoff. Follow this road for about
5 km then turn left to the NMMU (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University). Sign in at the gate and head straight on for 2 km until the road turns into a dirt road. Follow the dirt road until you reach a locked gate. Park on the left of the gate and not in front of it. Your hike starts here.

Craddock Pass





START: Witfontein Reserve 
END: Witfontein Reserve
DISTANCE: 14 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 846 m
TERRAIN: Single track with steep inclines and
 some overgrow near the railway line. Fitness important !

TERRAIN: Mostly double track and railway tracks. Some nice single track the last 2 km.

Pepsi Pools Saasveld

Terrain: Double track

Victoria Bay Railroad Seaview





START: Victoria bay beach
END: Victoria bay beach
DISTANCE: 3 km return
ELEVATION GAIN: 52.2 m
Terrain: Rocky start, then railway tracks.

Wolwedans Dam Trail



START: Stasie rd, Groot Brak Rivier
END: Stasie rd, Groot Brak Rivier
DISTANCE: 7.2 km return
ELEVATION GAIN: 165 m
TERRAIN: Not much of a trail left here after all the flooding,
 but still accessible.
Your hiking time for this trail will be at least an hour or two longer because of the rocky terrain.

George Mountain Cross






START: 1st Ave, Fernridge, George.
END: 1st Ave, Fernridge, George.
DISTANCE: 10.4 km return
ELEVATION GAIN: 393 m
TERRAIN: Double track.



Groeneweide Forest Trail



A beautiful forest hike on a well maintained trail that totals a hike of 13 km. Setting off from the Saasveld campus the trail start with a gradual descent to the Kaaimans River before climbing to a  path that offers spectacular views of towering Outeniqua Yellowoods and Ironwoods.

Starting at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Saasveld. Parking is available at the back of the University building. Walk over the small Golf Course and take a self-issue permit at the starting point of the trail. There is a map on the back of the permit, but take a moment and have a look at the big map on the signboard before you start your hike. You will find clear markers along the trail, indicating direction and distance walked. There are some nice clean river streams along the way, but please take enough drinking water.
