Groeneweide Forest Trail

A beautiful forest hike on a well maintained trail that totals a hike of 13 km. Setting off from the Saasveld campus the trail start with a gradual descent to the Kaaimans River before climbing to a  path that offers spectacular views of towering Outeniqua Yellowoods and Ironwoods.

Starting at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Saasveld. Parking is available at the back of the University building. Walk over the small Golf Course and take a self-issue permit at the starting point of the trail. There is a map on the back of the permit, but take a moment and have a look at the big map on the signboard before you start your hike. You will find clear markers along the trail, indicating direction and distance walked. There are some nice clean river streams along the way, but please take enough drinking water.
